The us.archive.ubuntu.com mirrors have been quirky of late.

Replace each instance of ‘us.archive.ubuntu.com’ with ‘archive.ubuntu.com’ in your /etc/apt/sources.list. Then run another ‘apt-get update’ session in a terminal to refresh the repos.
